Not eligible for AARP?? Well, I should be.

So I've been doing some temp work at my dad's office. It's nice to have something to do and a paycheck, even if it's small. I work with a few runners, all younger guys. Yesterday I learned that I used to babysit one of the runners I work with. I suddenly feel SO OLD. So old.

Since I'm now feeling slightly sorry for myself and really on a roll right now, I decided to make it worse by dwelling on some other reasons I feel old.
  • It hurts when I kneel down too long. That may explain why my sisters thought my lumbar-support pillow was a prayer pillow.
  • Then there's the whole issue of having a lumbar-support pillow.
  • While going through some old clothing, my sisters and my mom (my MOM!!!) gave me pitying looks and told me the stuff was "so 90s". I was going to wear it.
  • Although I'm soon expiring from the YSA program, as of July my sister and I are both eligible to attend a YSA ward. Depending on how my current circumstances work out, we may be attending the same YSA ward for a time. She's 11 years my junior. I changed her diapers.
  • I almost always get called "ma'am" in stores. Don't really love it. However...
  • I dislike it even more when people call me "miss".
  • I find myself suspiciously eyeing adolescents and wondering if the whippersnappers are up to no good.
  • I find myself telling my teeange sisters things like "When I was your age we didn't have cell phones, so deal with it" and "You seriously have never seen Back to the Future????" and "I just don't get why 'sick' is the new 'cool'. Just don't get it."
  • Finally: My radio station of choice is NPR and I seldom listen to anything else. To illustrate, during the 2 1/2 years I lived in Phoenix, I didn't know any other radio stations but 91.5 (NPR) and the classical music station for most of the time. I picked up on the cozy/sunny/fuzzy Delilah station (every city has one!) about 6 months before leaving. Anyway, not long ago my sister informed me that you know you're old once you start listening to NPR.
So if you need me I'll be at the hair dressers. I think it's time for a blue rinse.

Oh dear...if listening to NPR makes one old, I've been "old" since high school!

Hope you have a great holiday season!

This is the perfect post to 'out' myself as an occasionaly lurker, and to let you know I listened to your father on an NPR interview a few weeks ago, and he was, as always, fantastic. It is time to open a discussion about the future of Nevada and what role education should play. I even sat in my car in the driveway for five minute to hear the end of the interview. I love peaking in on your life. I would like to say you've grown into a lovely woman, but that might get the same reaction is calling you ma'am.
